ATR - Day 24: Safari in Satpura Tiger Reserve did not get us much but we managed to get today’s Vlog uploaded on time
Reached Satpura Tiger Reserve from Narsinghpur at around 5:00 PM and went on the safari right away at around 5:30 PM. Didn’t find much. But the ATR Daily Vlog went online on time for a change.

It was a tough and tiring day, and also quite disappointing in terms of sighting. Not many good pictures today. That’s what I often tell my students and other people who ask about wildlife photography — that a lot of time one doesn’t find anything exciting or photo-worthy in the jungle and on a lot of occasions we return empty-handed with nothing to show for the day. And it can happen day after day because wildlife is not particularly excited to be clicked or be celebrated on instagram or YouTube. They are living their instinct-driven lives while we try to capture them in their natural habitat, going about their everyday business of existing. So patience pays, and a lot of times doesn’t. That’s the nature of wildlife photography.
But this was in the evening at around 5:30 PM because we reached the Satpura Tiger Reserve from Narsighpur at around 5:00 PM and went for the safari right away. There was not much movement of the tiger; besides, I did not get many good pictures of other animals or birds either. I was also quite tired from the travel as well as a long day of having the video edited for the evening upload on the go. Editing the video in a moving car is pretty tough and tiring.
Satpura Tiger Reserve is in the Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh, and was notified as a tiger reserve on December 24, 2007. It is one of the older reserves, and the safari arrangement is as good as at most other places, even though the timings are slightly different, but all tiger reserves have their own safari timings depending upon the peculiar ecosystem of each jungle.
Much of the morning was spent reviewing several hours of footage to pick the right footage for the Vlog. In addition to the Daily Vlog, there are going to be videos in other segments, too, and the work is in progress on all of them at the same time. But for now, we are still struggling with getting the Daily Vlog uploaded on time so that those waiting for the update could get it when they expect it. But we have been able to do a timely upload, which is between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM only occasionally mainly because of all the travel and slow internet connection, which can’t be helped because tiger reserves are not known for high-speed broadband services.
But today’s Vlog did go live on time, mainly because we put in a lot of effort in making it possible. We are working on the next Vlog as well as other segments right now, and are hoping to have a timely upload tomorrow as well. Very soon, you’ll see videos under other ATR segments as well. Exactly when we’ll be able to launch all those segments is hard to say as of now, but in the coming month (November 2023), we expect to launch at least one more ATR segment, if not more, in addition to the Daily Vlog. Well, that’s the plan as of now, and we’ll make every effort to make it work.
